A cultural facility donated to his hometown by Ishibashi Shojiro, founder of the Bridgestone company, which was established in Kurume. With the motto "For the joy and happiness of the people," this center features a plaza with a fountain at its entrance, followed by a vibrant rose garden where blooms compete for attention, a Japanese garden that winds around a pond, and garden paths lined with azaleas—Kurume's signature flower. The grounds also house an art museum and library, making it a beloved gathering place for local residents. Best of all, admission is free, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely post-ramen walk among flowers and greenery.

Tips

Admission is free (art museum exhibitions require separate admission fees). The grounds are expansive, so if time is limited, visiting in order—the entrance plaza, rose garden, then Japanese garden—is most efficient. As flowers bloom seasonally, discovering which blooms are currently in season adds to the enjoyment of your walk.
