About this spot
An unusual art museum adjacent to Nagasaki Mizube no Mori Park, built to span a canal. Designed by architect Kengo Kuma, the building of glass and stone appears weightlessly floating above the water. The bridge corridor spanning the canal becomes a gallery itself, offering the luxury of viewing art above the water. The collection centers on Spanish art and works connected to Nagasaki, with the museum's collection breathing the memory of this harbor town's connections across the sea. The rooftop garden is free for anyone to access and offers views of Nagasaki Harbor and Mount Inasayama (稲佐山). Visit in the evening after your cruise and you'll find yourself in a perfect spot to reflect on your day.
Tips
Many areas are free to enjoy, such as the rooftop garden and corridor bridge—even if short on time, the building and views alone are highly satisfying. Collection exhibitions offer good value admission for thorough appreciation. Check the opening calendar beforehand as there are closure days.
Best time to visit
About one hour required. In the evening, the rooftop garden offers harbor views bathed in deep crimson, allowing you to savor the lingering emotions of your day-long boat journey.
