Built on the former site of the Nagasaki Bugyo (magistrate) office where the city's administration and trade were once managed during the Edo period, this museum features a partially restored building. Inside, you'll find an impressive collection reflecting Nagasaki's path as a center of international exchange, including artworks and crafts that crossed the seas, particularly items related to trade at Dejima. The restored magistrate's court allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of past judicial proceedings, and the many interactive exhibits make it enjoyable for both adults and children. Tips

The permanent exhibits are extensive, so allow plenty of time. During special exhibitions, admission fees may change. Located on a hilltop, there is a gentle slope to walk from the streetcar stop. The museum is large, so it's recommended to visit the exhibits you most want to see first.

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Early morning, right after opening, is the most peaceful time for thorough viewing.
