Classic Observation Terrace with Sweeping Views of the Ninety-Nine Islands
About this spot
An observation terrace on the Tawaregaura Peninsula near its southeastern tip, and an indispensable classic viewing spot for Ninety-Nine Islands sightseeing. From the observation deck, the complex inlets of the rias coastline and the large and small islands scattered across the blue sea spread out in a 180-degree panorama. The Ninety-Nine Islands experienced up close at the aquarium and on the sightseeing boat are now viewed from a high vantage point, bringing the full scope of how the islands connect together into focus. In season, the grounds are adorned with rape blossoms or cosmos across the slopes, and views of the islands seen through flowers are popular. Best of all, admission is free, so it's easy to drop in.
Tips
The walk from the parking area to the observatory requires sturdy shoes. The road leading to the peninsula features narrow sections and continuous curves, so drive cautiously. Few shaded areas are available; in summer, bring a hat and drinking water.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 40 minutes. On clear days with crisp air, island silhouettes are distinctly visible.
