Savor the Aromatic Broth of the Original Gu-Zoni and Taste Shimabara's Local Heritage
About this spot
This long-established restaurant is known as the original creator of Shimabara's signature Gu-Zoni. Gu-Zoni is a local Shimabara dish made by placing round mochi with chicken, mountain and sea delicacies in a single bowl and simmering them in broth. According to tradition, soldiers during the Shimabara Rebellion combined mochi and mountain and sea ingredients in a pot to eat, which is said to be the origin of this dish. It has since been cherished and passed down in this region. The fragrant aroma of broth that rises when you open the lid, the soft and tender mochi, and the gently pleasing taste will warm the body weary from your castle town stroll. Located just a short walk from Shimabara Castle, this is an ideal spot for lunch during your town exploration. Visiting the original shop allows you to taste a bowl that is essentially a living history of the land.
