Waterside Promenade Shimmering with Spring Water for a Refreshing Stroll
About this spot
This waterside park, centered around Lake Ezu formed by spring water welling up from the Aso aquifer, is truly the city's oasis. The lake comprises two sections—Upper Lake Ezu and Lower Lake Ezu—and is lined with promenades and boardwalks. You can walk while closely observing swaying aquatic plants and water birds. Known for its well-preserved spring water environment despite its urban location, the park is never without people enjoying walks and picnics. The upper lake area, accessible on foot from Suizenji Jojuen, features a pleasant promenade with flowing spring water and greenery. Standing in the breeze crossing the clear water surface, you will surely feel the reality of Kumamoto being the "City of Water."
Tips
Some sections of the promenade offer little shade, so bring a hat and water during warm seasons. The waterside boardwalks can be slippery after rain, so watch your footing carefully. If time permits, resting on the grassy lakeshore is highly recommended.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The morning light shimmering on the water's surface is ideal for a waterside walk.
