This is the representative water source of the Minamiaso spring group scattered across the southern side of Aso Caldera and is selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waters. An abundant 60 tons of water per minute wells up eternally, gracefully swirling the sandy bottom, with a constant water temperature of approximately 14 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Next to the water source stands Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine, dedicated to the water deity, and the surrounding area surrounded by cedar groves is enveloped in crisp, clean air. Water freshly drawn from the spring can be collected on-site and taken home, and a single taste will surprise you with its mellow smoothness. Entry requires an environmental conservation contribution fee, a system through which the beautiful water source is carefully protected by the local community.

Tips

Pay a 100-yen environmental conservation contribution fee at the entrance. If you plan to take water home, bring a plastic bottle or water bottle—containers are also available for purchase on-site. The stone pavement near the water's edge can be wet and slippery in places, so watch your footing.
