A nationally designated scenic mountain overlooking Matsushima's waters, where the observation point near the summit offers panoramic views of the Amakusa Five Bridges and the archipelago of large and small islands. Distinctive rock formations rise from the mountainside, contrasting beautifully with the blue sea and green island shadows below—a truly spectacular sight. According to legend, Amakusa Shiro held a celebration on this mountain when his forces set out, making it a historic location. Particularly in the evening, the tilted sun bathes the sea in gold while island shadows gradually deepen—a special time of day. After racing along the Pearl Line, this spot allows you to survey all the bridges and islands you've journeyed through, a fitting conclusion to your adventure.
Tips
The path from the parking area to the observation point involves climbing stone steps—wear comfortable hiking shoes. The summit area can be windy, so bring a wrap. Descend while daylight remains, as the path becomes dark after sunset.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 50 minutes. Late afternoon when the sun angles down and the sea shimmers gold is the ideal viewing time.
