Thrilling Dolphin-Watching Cruise with Outstanding Encounter Rates

About this spot

A major dolphin-watching facility located at the port in Nie, Imo and Hagi, Amakusa City. The Hayasaki Strait stretches before you, one of the world's rare marine areas where wild Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins live year-round. The dolphins are known to frequent rich fishing grounds, giving visitors an exceptionally high probability of encounters. Aboard the cruise ship heading out to sea, you'll witness dolphins swimming alongside the vessel, leaping at the surface, and mothers with calves swimming close together—a glimpse of wild dolphins up close that no aquarium can offer. The facility also features a dining area serving local seafood and a souvenir shop, so after disembarking, you can enjoy fresh seafood lunch and browse for souvenirs all in one place.

Tips

Advance booking is recommended for the cruise. Operations may be cancelled depending on sea conditions, so it's wise to confirm the schedule on the morning of your visit. Wind on deck is strong and can easily blow hats away, so hold on tight. If you're prone to seasickness, take motion-sickness medication about 30 minutes before boarding.

Best time to visit

Approximately 3 hours. Morning cruises on calm days offer the highest chances of dolphin encounters.
