Stock Up on Oita Souvenirs at the Station-Connected Building
About this spot
A large station building directly connected to JR Oita Station, offering unbeatable convenience for final souvenir shopping. The first-floor "Bungo Niwasaki Market" (豊後にわさき市場) brings together Oita's specialties and souvenirs, from sweets and drinks made with kabosu (Japanese citrus) to tori-meshi seasoning and zabieru (a famous confection), allowing you to find flavors from throughout the prefecture in one place. The building also features fashion and accessory floors and an excellent restaurant area, making it convenient to have an early dinner before heading home. The rooftop has a grassy plaza called "City Rooftop Hiroba" with attractions like a mini train that children will love. It's also recommended to enjoy the sunset view of Oita's city from the rooftop after a day of walking.
Tips
The parking lot offers discounts based on purchase amount, so check your receipt before paying. Since some souvenirs are refrigerated items, having an insulated bag is helpful. Rooftop plaza availability may be affected by weather. The restaurant area gets crowded after 6 PM on weekends, so early seating is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. In the evening, you can enjoy both shopping and sunset views from the rooftop.
