Morning Stroll Along the Castle Moat and Restored Roofed Corridor Bridge

About this spot

A park built on the grounds of Fūnaishi Castle, which once stood in central Oita. The castle, formerly known as Hakuji Castle, lives on through its water-filled moats, stone walls, and white-walled turrets. The roofed corridor bridge spanning the moat is a wooden reconstruction, and walking beneath its roof evokes the charm of the castle town. The promenade circling the moat is easy to walk with no traffic signals, making it ideal for a leisurely morning stroll while admiring the stone walls and turrets reflected in the water. Within walking distance of Oita Station, it's the perfect starting point for your gourmet journey—a gentle walk to work up an appetite before the feast ahead.

Tips

The moat area has little shade, so bring a hat and water in summer. The corridor bridge has fixed access hours; even if it's closed, the view from the moat's edge is worth the visit. Parking is mainly paid. Morning walks before commute traffic begins are peaceful and recommended.

Best time to visit

Approximately 45 minutes. Early morning offers the calmest water reflections in the moat and the most pleasant atmosphere.
