About this spot

An observation facility and planetarium perched on a hillside near the tip of Sagaseki Peninsula, overlooking the Toyoyohaikyaku Strait. From the observation area, the narrow strait separating Kyushu and Shikoku stretches before you in all directions—a breathtaking vista where passing ships and blue currents weave together. On clear days with crisp air, you can see all the way to Sata Cape on Shikoku across the sea. The facility's large telescope planetarium hosts daytime observation events of the sun and other celestial bodies, with engaging displays about stars and the cosmos. After gazing at the fast Hayasui Strait that nurtures sekiaji and sekisaba, this observation point provides the perfect finale to your Bungo gourmet journey.

Tips

The road to the cape has narrow sections, so drive carefully. The observation deck can be windy; bring a light layer for comfort. Planetarium events are held on specific dates, so check the schedule in advance if interested.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Afternoon with clear light offers the best views of the strait.
