A deep gorge carved by the Yufu River over long ages, celebrated for its beauty as the "Tyrol of the Orient." The cliffs rising vertically from both banks reach tens of meters in height, and the sight of thin waterfalls cascading down moss-covered rock faces has a mysterious quality. The sound of water echoing from the valley floor is breathtakingly powerful, and gazing into the observation point, you catch your breath at the dizzying depth. The contrast between the surrounding greenery and the rock walls is beautiful, creating moments that make you want to reach for a camera. This is a place to experience the sculptural beauty of the earth, quite different from the bright highland scenery elsewhere.
Tips
The gorge area has many shaded spots and wet, slippery ground, so wear sturdy-soled shoes. Do not lean out beyond the observation point railings, and keep close watch over small children. Access to areas descending into the gorge may be restricted depending on conditions, so follow all on-site signage.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Early afternoon, when sunlight filters through the greenery, is the best time to see the moss-covered rock faces in their full beauty.
