Long revered as the foremost shrine of Hyuga Province, this sacred site enshrines Daikokuten (大己貴命), affectionately called Daikokusama, known as the god of good marriages and healing. As you proceed through the approach path cradled by dense forest, beside the shrine hall stand the Nadeshiko Rabbit (撫でうさぎ), a stone statue connected to the legendary White Hare of Inaba through the enshrined deity, and the Nadeshiko Daikoku (撫で大国) seated upon a bale of rice. Legend says that gently touching these statues while making a wish grants blessings. This historic sacred ground, where Emperor Jinmu is said to have stopped during his eastern expedition, feels as if your mind naturally clears when walking through its crisp morning air. It is the perfect place to begin your drive and pray for safe travels.

Tips

The shrine grounds feature crushed stone and stone-paved paths, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The morning hours have fewer visitors, making it ideal for quiet worship. Having cash on hand is helpful for purchasing talismans and receiving stamps (goshuin). While parking is available near Route 10, the grounds may become crowded on festival days.
