Wine Tour and Tasting on a Hill Overlooking the Hyuga-nada Sea
About this spot
Perched on a hilltop commanding views of the Hyuga-nada Sea, this winery crafts wine from grapes grown in Tono Town. Despite the challenges of the local climate—warm, rainy, and hurricane-prone—the winemakers have persevered and achieved recognition, particularly for their Campbell Early rosé made from locally cultivated varieties. The story of overcoming such adversity is a point of pride for the region. Inside the facility, you can view the brewing equipment through glass, and the shop offers wine tastings (designated drivers can enjoy Tono grape juice instead). The panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and vineyards from the terrace is a treat in itself. Selecting a bottle while gazing at the sea makes for a memorable souvenir.
Tips
If participating in tastings, designate a driver beforehand. Tono grape juice is available for those driving. Wine bottles are heavy, so packing towels or a cooler bag as cushioning is helpful for transport. The hilltop can be windy, so bring a light jacket.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Morning light makes the Hyuga-nada Sea appear at its most vivid blue.
