This park is built on the grounds of the former Takahashi Castle, also known as Maizuru Castle (舞鶴城), where the castle town of the Takahashi domain was once governed during the Edo period. Though no castle keep remains, the moat and moss-covered stone walls evoke the castle's former glory, and a leisurely walk through the verdant trees immerses you in the history of the castle town. The Akizuki family, lords of the Takahashi domain, later established the Yonezawa domain and produced Uesugi Yosан (上杉鷹山), a renowned lord known for revitalizing his realm. The domain was also notable for its educational dedication, establishing the Meirintei (明倫堂) academy. As your journey concludes, a stroll through this quiet castle grounds bathed in the evening sun invites reflection on the stories nurtured by this small castle town along the Hyuga-nada Sea—a perfect finale filled with lingering impressions.

The park has ample shade and is pleasant for afternoon walks, though stone steps and earthen paths require comfortable walking shoes. During lush seasons, insect repellent adds to comfort. After completing a loop of the grounds, resting on a bench by the moat is recommended.
