142 Meters High: A Skyway Walk Above the Evergreen Forest Valley
About this spot
A pedestrian-only suspension bridge spanning the deep ravine carved by the Aya Minami River, standing 142 meters above the water. When completed, it was the world's highest walk-across suspension bridge, and today offers unobstructed views of Japan's largest evergreen forest canopy. The Aya evergreen forest is a precious ecosystem registered as a UNESCO Eco-Park, where glossy-leaved evergreens like shii and kashi trees flourish year-round. Beyond the bridge, a forest walking path winds through the trees, inviting you to bathe in forest therapy surrounded by birdsong and rustling leaves. The sheer scale of the forest and ravine below is a fitting introduction to your Aya journey.
Tips
Those uncomfortable with heights can still enjoy the ravine's beauty from the viewing area at the bridge's base. On windy days, secure your hat. If you venture along the footpath, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Early morning hours mean fewer crowds and better photo opportunities.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Morning light makes the forest green shine most beautifully.
