A wooden reconstruction of a Warring States-era mountain fortress that preserves the appearance of early Japanese mountain castles. Climb the steep wooden stairs to the tower's uppermost level for panoramic views of the town and endless ranges of evergreen forest. The castle interior displays historical artifacts of Aya. The adjacent Aya International Craft Castle (綾国際クラフトの城) embodies the town's craft heritage, allowing you to observe woodworkers and weavers at close range and browse finished works for sale. Both can be explored together on the same hilltop.
Tips
Aya Castle and the Aya International Craft Castle are on the same hill—visiting both is recommended. The tower stairs are steep; hold young children's hands. Craftspeople at the craft castle may share their techniques if you ask.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Morning light clearly illuminates the town and surrounding mountains from the tower.
