A beautiful street paved with Ryukyuan limestone running through Tsuboya, the pottery district where 'yachimun' (Okinawan ceramics) is crafted. Kilns, galleries, and select shops line both sides, offering plenty of time to carefully choose yachimun with their characteristic plump thickness and bold hand-painted designs. The roofline shikishi lions and red-tiled homes evoke wonderful atmosphere, and stepping off International Street into this quiet space feels like a different world. Historic renovated houses house cafés where you can enjoy drinks and sweets served in yachimun vessels—perfect for a break during your food tour.
Tips
Ryukyuan limestone pavement can be slippery when wet, so wear comfortable shoes. If you buy pottery, have it wrapped securely and carry in an eco-bag. The gentle slopes and side lanes invite exploration, so allow plenty of time to browse leisurely.
