Summer classic: Kids splash in fountains and flowing water channels with all their might
About this spot
A water play plaza in the Tachikawa area of Showa Kinen National Government Park that becomes one of the busiest zones during summer vacation, packed with families. The area features fountains spraying up from the ground and flowing water channels, making it a summer staple where many children visit with a change of clothes rather than swimwear. On the day of the fireworks show, crowding increases from evening onward, so it's wise to complete water play in the early afternoon. After moving around during water play, change clothes and cool off before heading to the next spot. With a single park entrance fee, admission is valid for the entire day, so you can move freely throughout the park.

2026年7月25日(土)19時15分から1時間、国営昭和記念公園みんなの原っぱの上空に約5,000発の花火が打ち上がります。遮るものがない18万平方メートルの広大な芝生からは、花火が真上に近い角度で開くため、都心の花火大会にはないスケールと迫力を体全体で感じられます。芝生に寝転がりながら見上げる花火は、立川まつりならではの楽しみ方です。スターマインや大玉が次々と開くフィナーレの連発は、夜空を丸ごと使った圧巻の光景で、夏の1日のクライマックスにふさわしい締めくくりとなります。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は立川まつり実行委員会の公式発表で確認してください。終了後は公園の各出口と立川駅・西立川駅が大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は芝生でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから、混雑が落ち着いたころに帰路につくのがおすすめです。帰りは西立川駅(JR青梅線)の利用も混雑分散に有効です。
Tips
A 5-10 minute walk from JR Tachikawa Station North Exit or Nishi-Tachikawa Station to the Tachikawa entrance. Admission is ¥450 for adults, free for middle school students and younger. The water play area has changing spaces and foot-washing stations, so be sure to bring a change of clothes and towels for children. There is also a shop.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Sunlight is intense in late morning and early afternoon, so be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat
