The Katsushika Ryōryoku Hanabi Taikai is held every late July along the Edogawa riverbank around Shibamata Baseball Field and is the premier summer fireworks festival representing Katsushika Ward. With approximately 20,000 fireworks—among Tokyo's highest numbers—large starbursts and "shakudama" (尺玉) bloom successively across the night sky. The wide Edogawa riverbank has minimal obstructions, allowing viewers to look up directly at the ascending fireworks—one of the festival's greatest charms. The finale of continuous displays lasting approximately one hour illuminates the entire riverbank with stunning force, a climax worthy of a summer night. Combined with the downtown charm of Shibamata, savor this fireworks experience unique to Katsushika.

Tips

Check Katsushika Ward's official announcement for weather-related cancellations. After the show, return routes to Shibamata Station and Keiseikintettsu Line Kanemachi Station will be very congested. After the finale, enjoy the lingering atmosphere on the riverbank, then move once the crowd thins. The ground is dark, so a smartphone light is helpful.
