Approximately 20,000 fireworks fill the night sky of the Sumida River
About this spot
One of Japan's oldest fireworks festivals, tracing its origins to 1733. On July 25, 2026 (Saturday) from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, approximately 20,000 fireworks will launch from two venues: the first running below Sakura Bridge to above Kotoi Bridge in Sumida Ward, and the second from below Kurogane Bridge to above Makura Bridge. Starmines, kakiwari (shell bursts), and creative fireworks burst simultaneously from both venues in a display that fills the sky without gaps, and the band of light reflected on the Sumida River is of incomparable beauty. The vibrations of sound carried on the river breeze and the warm-toned light illuminating the downtown night sky embody the summer spectacle that has continued since the Edo period. The approximately 90-minute finale with large starmines filling the night sky is a breathtaking climax worthy of this full day's experiences.

In the event of storms or strong winds, the festival may be cancelled or postponed, so always check the official announcement for confirmation of whether the festival will be held. All stations in the Asakusa and Oshiage areas become severely crowded immediately after the finale. Rather than leaving right away, spend about 30 minutes enjoying the afterglow in the park or along the riverside; this will ease the crowds. On the way back, walking to the next station over and boarding there will result in a smoother journey.
Best time to visit
