The Itabashi Fireworks Festival is a leading local fireworks display held every summer at the Arakawa riverbank near Todabashi Bridge in Itabashi Ward. Looking up at the unobstructed sky over the vast Arakawa riverbank, the sight of large fireworks blooming one after another is exceptional, and the flickering light reflected on the river's surface is beautiful too. The viewing style here, spreading a sheet on the riverbank lawn and settling in comfortably, makes for a family-friendly environment even with small children. A fireworks festival is often held at the same time on the opposite bank in Toda City, Saitama Prefecture, and the sheer scale of fireworks launching from both banks is part of the fun. Tips

Check Itabashi Ward's official announcements, both in advance and on the day, for whether the event will proceed in case of bad weather. The nearest station and bus stops get very crowded after the show ends. Rather than leaving right away, it's relatively smoother to enjoy the afterglow at the riverbank for a while and head home a bit later, staggered from the crowd. Some parts of the way home are dark underfoot, so make use of your smartphone's flashlight.

Best time to visit

Timed to the 7:00-8:30 p.m. show. Be settled comfortably in your viewing spot 30 minutes before it starts.
