Because Kumihama Bay is a quiet inner bay separated from the Japan Sea by a sandbar, the waves are gentle and the water surface remains calm, allowing the launched fireworks to reflect directly on the bay's surface—a "reflected fireworks" display that is the festival's greatest feature. Within the bay surrounded by mountains, the explosion sounds echo with a serene intensity unlike urban fireworks displays.
