Approximately 12,000 fireworks illuminate the night sky above the Chikugo River—the day's climax
About this spot
The Chikugo River Fireworks Festival is one of Kyushu's premier fireworks festivals, held jointly by three venues: Kurume, Yamaga, and Tosu, with approximately 12,000 fireworks launched at the Tosu venue alone. Viewing from the riverbank close to the water surface brings the spectacular force of fireworks approaching from the front, and the light's reflection flickering on the water surface further enhances the fireworks' beauty. From large chrysanthemum shells to vibrantly colored star mines, an hour-long program of fireworks continuously paints the night sky in a visually stunning display. The finale's rapid succession illuminating both the night sky and water surface simultaneously becomes the perfect finale to this full day.
Fireworks details
Name: 筑後川花火大会(鳥栖会場)
Date & time: 8/5 (Wed) 19:40–20:40
Venue: 筑後川河川敷・鳥栖会場(佐賀県鳥栖市)
Shells: approx. 12,000
Tips
Check the official festival information on the day to confirm whether the event proceeds in case of bad weather. After the show, the area around Tosu Station becomes very crowded, so it's easier to avoid congestion by lingering at the riverbank a bit longer before leaving. The return path has dark areas, so having your phone light or a small light available is safer. Since the next day is a weekday, families with children should plan their return time accordingly.
Best time to visit
Timing coordinated with the 19:40–20:40 show times. It's recommended to be seated 15–20 minutes before the start.
