About this spot

This is a roughly 70-hectare urban park in Kurume City, spreading along the riverbanks of the Chikugo River (筑後川) and the Shin-Homan River (新宝満川). Baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, and multipurpose plazas are scattered throughout, with more than 100 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees planted along the levee. In the Komorino area, there's a flower field that makes use of the riverbank, where about 150,000 cosmos flowers bloom in autumn. In the evening, the breeze crossing the water is pleasant by the riverside, and it's a beautiful time to watch the sky's colors change as the sun sets. Once you've spread out your leisure sheet and claimed a spot, take your time laying out dinner. It's reassuring to check the location of restrooms while it's still light out.

Tips

On the day of the fireworks festival, people start claiming spots early. If you want a good spot, it's reassuring to arrive at the riverbank sometime in the 5 PM hour. Portable toilets are set up, but lines get long around the start of the show, so it's best to use them early. Since the road toward Tosu Station gets crowded on the way back, enjoying the afterglow for a bit after the show before moving helps spread out the crowd.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. The riverside dusk is cool and ideal for spending a relaxed moment before the fireworks
