This is the riverbank and levee area along the Matsuura River (松浦川) that serves as the venue for the Kyushu Fireworks Festival. The stretch from Karatsu City's Taiiku no Mori (体育の森) to the Matsuura River Sports Ground forms the core of the viewing area. Once you arrive at dusk and claim your viewing spot, wait for the show to start by browsing food stalls or watching the river's surface change. By the river at autumn dusk, the air is clear enough that you can see all the way to distant mountain ridgelines. Watching the crowd build and the excitement grow as people gather around you is also part of the unique enjoyment of a fireworks festival.

Tips

Within walking distance of Karatsu Station. Since the viewing area is large, it's a good idea to walk around a bit after arriving to find a spot with a good view. Spread your leisure sheet to suit the ground—whether on the levee's slope or the riverbank's grassy areas. If food stalls are set up, buying food early lets you finish before the crowds build. We strongly recommend checking restroom locations ahead of time.
