This offshore fireworks display forms the climax of the Himeji Minato Festival. Over 10,000 fireworks are launched from barges offshore in Harima-nada, bursting large across the unobstructed sky above the sea, with vivid, brilliant blooms appearing one after another as the smoke drifts on the sea breeze. A varied program of starmines, large shells, and more continues for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, with bands of light reflected on the water creating a doubled beauty. The moment the finale's rapid-fire barrage lights up the entire port is overwhelmingly powerful, a scale only possible with 10,000 shells. Bringing together the sea of Harima and the autumn night sky as one, this fireworks display is a fitting way to close out summer in Himeji.

Tips

Be sure to check the official event announcement and the City of Himeji for whether the event will proceed in bad weather. Shikama Station and the Sanyo Electric Railway get extremely crowded after the show, so it is recommended to linger a bit at the port after the finale to enjoy the afterglow before heading home in a staggered fashion. Check the day-of announcements for any shuttle buses or extra trains toward Himeji Station. The path home can be dark underfoot, so use a light.
