About this spot

Located just south of Motomachi Station, it is one of Japan's three major Chinatowns, alongside Yokohama and Nagasaki. Packed into a compact area of approximately 200 meters east-west and 110 meters north-south are numerous restaurants and food shops offering street food favorites like char siu bao, dim sum, and sesame balls. The surrounding colorful Chinese-style gate towers (paifang) create an exotic Kobe atmosphere that lifts your spirits just walking through. If you focus your lunch here on street food, you'll stay light on your feet for the rest of the day. On the day of the fireworks festival, daytime hours see relatively few crowds, making it a pleasantly relaxed time to explore.

Tips

About 3 minutes walk from JR Motomachi Station or Hanshin Motomachi Station, and about 5 minutes walk from Hanshin Kawaike Station. The key to enjoying street food is sampling multiple shops while adjusting portions. Popular shops form queues during midday rush, so allow extra time for waiting. Keep valuables secure, especially during crowded periods.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. Early afternoon has fewer crowds than evening, making it an ideal time for street food browsing.
