Next stop: Cool Off, Eat Dinner, and Secure Your Spot on the White Sand Beach Before the FireworksAbout this spot
One of the hot spring sources of Shirahama said to be recorded in the Nihon Shoki (日本書紀), this rustic open-air bath set on rock formations offers an unobstructed view of the Pacific—Japan's oldest-class outdoor spa. The experience of soaking in the hot spring while feeling the incoming waves just before you is unique and extraordinary. After the exertion of exploring Sandankabe and Senjojiki, this is the perfect time to ease tired feet and refresh before the fireworks at night. While shampoo and soap cannot be used, you will feel refreshed and ready to head to Shirahama Beach afterward.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from Senjojiki, or within walking distance of Shirahama Beach. Bathing fee is approximately 500 yen for adults (fees may vary, so confirm at the facility). There are separate open-air baths for men and women, not mixed bathing. Please bring your own towel. As a seaside open-air bath, it may close on days with high waves or rough weather. Confirm open hours in advance on the official website before visiting.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. In the afternoon when the western sun shines over the sea, the color of the bath water is particularly beautiful.
