This ancient shrine, known as the guardian shrine of Koshigaya City, is a venerable site also referred to as one of the Ichinomiya (leading shrines) of Musashi Province. Large trees line both sides of the long approach path, keeping the walkway cool in the shade even at the height of summer. Peacocks are kept on the grounds, a popular sight with children too. In the quiet atmosphere long cherished by local residents, you can spend a calm moment before the lively fireworks festival. It's a fitting spot to set the tone for the day while taking in Koshigaya's history and greenery.
Tips
About a 20-minute bus ride or walk from the East Exit of Koshigaya Station, or a taxi is convenient. Visiting the shrine is free. The grounds are fairly spacious, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The peacocks are kept in one corner of the grounds and can be observed up close. If you'd like a goshuin (shrine stamp), check the shrine office's reception hours in advance.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The shade in the early afternoon is cool, making it an ideal time to stroll the approach path.
