About this spot

A central, all-purpose park in Beppu City, within walking distance of Beppu Station (別府駅). Within the grounds, surrounded by a vast lawn and abundant greenery, fountains and benches are scattered about, making it a place of relaxation for local residents. The shade in summer is pleasant during the day, making it an ideal warm-up spot for comfortably starting a long fireworks-festival day. The park has good sightlines, so families with small children can relax without worry. Spreading out lunch here to enjoy a picnic mood is also a good option.

Tips

About 15 minutes on foot from Beppu Station (別府駅), or accessible by local bus. Admission is free. Shaded benches can get crowded, so a picnic sheet comes in handy. It is smoothest to pick up drinks at a convenience store near the station before heading over.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour. The shade just after midday is cool, making this the ideal time to prepare your body for the afternoon's sightseeing
