Muro Dam (室生ダム)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Lake Muro (室生湖), formed by Muro Dam (室生ダム), is a quiet artificial lake spreading through the mountains of eastern Nara Prefecture. Surrounded by mountains, the lakeshore turns breezy and cool in the evening, making it an ideal spot to cool off on a summer evening. As the sun sets over the mountain ridgeline, the color of the lake surface shifts moment by moment from orange to indigo, a luxurious moment unique to summer in a mountain village. Since the fireworks venue is Muro Sports Ground (室生運動場) near the dam, once you have enjoyed the twilight scenery by the lake, fuel up with the meal you brought or the snacks you picked up at the roadside station, and head to the venue early. The very transition of time from dusk into night is an important part of this course.

Tips

On the day of the fireworks festival, the roads and parking around the venue, Muro Sports Ground, are expected to get crowded. It is reassuring to move early and secure a spot. It is recommended to start using insect repellent spray before evening. Since something to layer will be needed right after the sun sets, keep it somewhere you can grab quickly. Check the location of restrooms while it is still light out.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. Arriving at the lakeshore around sunset lets you fully enjoy the twilight lake
