About this spot
As the Ichinomiya of Mutsu Province, it is an ancient shrine with over 1,200 years of history representing Tohoku. It features a unique layout where Shiogama Shrine and Shiwahiko Shrine (志波彦神社) are enshrined within the same grounds. Upon reaching the top of the 202-step stone staircase called "Otoko-saka" (Male Slope), you will be greeted by the solemn vermillion-painted main shrine. From the grounds, you can overlook Shiogama Harbor and the islands of Matsushima Bay, and seeing the harbor in daylight where tonight's fireworks will explode creates a narrative flow for the day. Following April's Shiogama Minato Matsuri, the summer grounds have deep green foliage and a refreshing atmosphere. If you wish to receive a shrine stamp, please take your time here.

塩竈みなと祭の前夜を飾る花火大会で、約8,000発が港の夜空を40分にわたって彩ります。翌日に行われるみなと祭本祭(神輿海上渡御)への期待感と相まって、港町全体が高揚感に包まれる特別な夜です。海面すれすれから打ち上がる水中花火や、夜の松島湾を背景に開く大輪の花火は、海辺の大会ならではの迫力。塩釜港の水面に映る光の揺らめきも見逃せない見せ場です。フィナーレの連発が港の空を一斉に照らす瞬間に、この1日のクライマックスが訪れます。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は塩竈市や大会公式の発表で確認してください。終了直後はJR本塩釜駅や周辺道路が大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は岸壁や港周辺で少し余韻を楽しんでから、混雑が落ち着いたタイミングで帰路につくのがおすすめです。帰り道は足元が暗いため、スマートフォンのライトを活用して安全に移動しましょう。

Approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Honshiogama Station. As the stone steps are steep, stable footwear is recommended. If the stone steps are difficult, you can also use the gentler "Onna-saka" (Female Slope). Entry to the shrine grounds is free. If you want a shrine stamp, check the ofuda office reception hours in advance.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. The dappled sunlight at midday beautifully illuminates the shrine grounds' greenery and the vermillion shrine buildings
