About this spot

The passenger terminal of Shiogama facing Matsushima Bay, where regular ferries to the Urato Islands and sightseeing boats to Matsushima depart—the gateway to the harbor. Outside the terminal are spacious quays and a promenade with an expansive, open view of Shiogama Harbor and the Matsushima Bay islands. Tonight's fireworks festival will launch right from this area, so checking the venue topography and potential viewing spots in daylight allows for smooth movement at night. The terminal also has shops inside, convenient for a break.

Tips

Approximately 10 minutes on foot from JR Honshiogama Station. Roads around the venue may be congested or restricted from evening onwards on fireworks day, so checking your routes in daylight is reassuring. There is little shade on the quays, so don't forget a hat and sunscreen.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. The afternoon sea breeze is pleasant and ideal for scouting the venue before the fireworks
