About this spot

Torinoumi (鳥の海) is a brackish lagoon spreading near the mouth of the Abukuma River (阿武隈川), along with the Pacific coastal area that continues beyond it. Standing on the shoreline, an unobstructed, wide horizon spreads before your eyes, and the salty sea breeze and sound of waves make for a pleasant place to stroll. In this area still recovering from the Great East Japan Earthquake, time spent walking while facing the sea carries a quiet depth different from lively sightseeing. Since the SAKAN Athlete Park Multipurpose Plaza (SAKANアスリートパーク多目的広場), tonight's fireworks viewing venue, is also nearby, checking the surrounding terrain and atmosphere in daylight will make your movement smoother at night. The air is clear on an autumn seaside, spreading out a photogenic scene.

Tips

A few minutes on foot or by car from Michi-no-Eki Torinoumi (道の駅鳥の海). There are also unpaved sandy areas, so wear comfortable sneakers. On sunny days, bring a hat and sunscreen. It gets suddenly cold from evening onward, so it's reassuring to check where you'll keep your outer layer around this time.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. The slanting afternoon light makes the sea surface sparkle, a great time for photos
