The shopping street area extending from around JR Ishinomaki Station toward Tatecho and Chuo is lined with food stalls and vendors on the day of the Kawazakura Matsuri Festival, enveloped in festival atmosphere. Ishinomaki is an area abundant with fresh seafood from the Sanriku coast, and grilled fish and seafood stalls are among the offerings. By eating early in the evening, you can move to the fireworks venue with plenty of time. Enjoy the festival atmosphere while having dinner and light snacks, and be sure to refuel well before the fireworks. Vendors near the venue become quite crowded around the time of the performance, so it's wise to stock up on drinks here as well.

石巻川開き祭りは毎年8月第1土曜日に開催される、石巻市最大の夏祭りです。北上川の開北橋下流から打ち上げられる約5,000発の花火は、広い川幅を存分に使った迫力ある構成で、川面に映る逆さ花火の美しさも石巻ならではの見どころ。川沿いの河川敷から打ち上げ場所を正面に眺めることができ、水と花火の光が生み出す幻想的な景色は毎年多くの観客を魅了します。川開き祭りの名前のとおり、北上川とともに生きてきた石巻のまちの夏を象徴する花火大会として、地域の人々に長く愛されてきた伝統の行事です。

Tips

花火会場となる河川敷には開演の1〜2時間前から場所取りが始まります。観覧場所は早めに確保してレジャーシートを敷き、ゆとりを持って開演を待ちましょう。荒天時の開催可否は石巻市または大会公式の発表で確認を。終了後は帰宅客が一斉に動くため、石巻駅方面への道は大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は河川敷でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから時間差で移動するのがおすすめです。

Tips

Just a short walk from Ishinomaki Station. The area will see increased crowds on the festival evening. It's ideal to finish eating by around 4 PM before the rush. Make sure to secure drinks in bottles for everyone. Allow about 15-20 minutes for the walk from the station to the fireworks venue (riverbank downstream from Kaiboku Bridge).
