Tsurutomi Mansion, located in the center of Shiiba Village, is a thatched-roof folk house designated as a National Important Cultural Property. A symbolic building of Shiiba Village with the legend of Heike clan fleeing after their defeat in the Genpei War, the poignant tale of Nasu Daihataro and Tsurumi Hime, daughter of the Heike, continues to be told today. The interior of the building is open for viewing, with folk tools and furnishings that convey the lifestyle of mountain villages, preserving the atmosphere of that era. The sturdy thatched roof combined with the green of the surrounding mountains creates a place where you can deeply realize you have come to a remote village. It is also close to the fireworks venue and ideal as the starting point of this course.

Tips

Located in the center of Shiiba Village with walking access available. Admission for adults is approximately ¥300 (may vary; please confirm on-site). There are steps inside the building, so watch your footing. Since parking is limited in the area, arriving early is recommended if coming by car.
