Aterazawa Station (左沢駅), the terminus of the Yamagata Railway Flower Nagai Line, is the gateway to Oe Town, a water village that flourished through Mogami River boat transportation. As you exit the station, the clear waters of the Mogami River and verdant countryside spread before you, welcoming you with a landscape typical of a Yamagata summer. This is a good place to first view the Mogami River, which will be the stage for tonight's fireworks display and lantern floating, and to take a commemorative photo as the starting point of your day. The station plaza is in the quiet center of town, allowing you to begin the course in a calm atmosphere. There is a riverside promenade nearby where you can feel the flow of the river up close.

水郷大江夏まつり灯ろう流し花火大会は、終戦の日である8月15日に戦没者を偲んで最上川に灯ろうを流す行事と花火大会が合わさった、大江町の夏を代表する祭りです。川面を流れる無数の灯ろうの光は、夜の最上川を静かに、そして美しく彩ります。19時の花火打ち上げが始まると、灯ろうの揺らめきと花火の光が最上川の上で重なり合い、他の花火大会では味わえない独特の幻想的な光景が広がります。山形の里山に囲まれた最上川から打ち上がる花火は、川面に映り込みながら夜空に大きく開き、夏の夜の澄んだ空気の中に鮮やかな光の花を咲かせます。灯ろう流しに込められた祈りの意味を感じながら、家族で静かに花火を見上げる時間は、夏の大切な記憶になるでしょう。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大江町の公式発表で事前に確認してください。終了後は周辺道路が混雑するため、花火終了後は少し時間をおいてから移動するのがおすすめです。河川敷は照明が少ない場所もあるため、小さなライトを必ず持参してください。帰りの車・公共交通の時刻は事前に確認を。

Access by transferring to the Yamagata Railway Flower Nagai Line from Yamagata Station toward Aterazawa, or by car approximately 40 minutes from the center of Yamagata City. On the day of the fireworks display, parking lots around the venue tend to fill up from late afternoon onward, so it's reassuring to familiarize yourself with parking locations during the day.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 30 minutes. Confirming the flow of the Mogami River during daylight hours will make the lantern floating at night even more moving.
