About this spot

This large park in Oe Town (大江町) spreads along the Mogami River (最上川), with a grassy plaza and promenades that make it a great spot for families to relax. You can get right up to the river's edge, allowing you to enjoy the flow of the Mogami River and the surrounding hillside scenery up close. Under the summer sun, you can spread out your own bento while feeling the cool breeze off the river, or let the kids run around the plaza, a place where both children and adults can spend the time as they please. Taking a good, leisurely look at the Mogami River in the bright daylight, the very setting for tonight's lantern floating and fireworks, will heighten your anticipation for the nighttime scenery. The park is lush with greenery, and shaded rest spots are scattered throughout.

Tips

About 5 minutes by car from Atarazawa Station (左沢駅). The large grassy plaza is also great for a lunch break with a picnic sheet spread out. Since the sun can be strong at this time of day, bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty to drink. It's also a quiet park well suited to an afternoon nap break.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Since the midsummer sun is strong during the day, look for shade or a cool spot by the river to rest
