The Mizugo Oe Summer Festival Lantern Floating and Fireworks Display is Oe Town's signature summer festival, combining the tradition of floating lanterns on the Mogami River on August 15, the day the war ended, to honor the war dead, with a fireworks display. The light of countless lanterns flowing across the water's surface illuminates the nighttime Mogami River quietly and beautifully. When the fireworks launch begins at 7 PM, the flickering light of the lanterns and the light of the fireworks overlap above the Mogami River, creating a uniquely fantastical sight that cannot be experienced at other fireworks displays. Fireworks launched from the Mogami River surrounded by the Yamagata countryside reflect in the water's surface and bloom large in the night sky, creating brilliant flowers of light in the clear summer night air.
