The Senbon-hara (千本原) area of the Mogami River floodplain, which serves as the main venue for the fireworks display and lantern floating. As evening approaches, food stalls line up and the festive atmosphere of the festival heightens. Once you've secured an early viewing spot and spread out a leisure sheet, enjoy dinner from the food stalls while relaxing and waiting for the event to begin. As the sun sets, the color of the river's surface changes, and eventually the lanterns begin to flow. The sight of lanterns flowing down the Mogami River on August 15, the date when the war ended, has a special quality even before the fireworks begin. The cool evening breeze and sound of insects along the riverbank enrich this summer twilight time.

水郷大江夏まつり灯ろう流し花火大会は、終戦の日である8月15日に戦没者を偲んで最上川に灯ろうを流す行事と花火大会が合わさった、大江町の夏を代表する祭りです。川面を流れる無数の灯ろうの光は、夜の最上川を静かに、そして美しく彩ります。19時の花火打ち上げが始まると、灯ろうの揺らめきと花火の光が最上川の上で重なり合い、他の花火大会では味わえない独特の幻想的な光景が広がります。山形の里山に囲まれた最上川から打ち上がる花火は、川面に映り込みながら夜空に大きく開き、夏の夜の澄んだ空気の中に鮮やかな光の花を咲かせます。灯ろう流しに込められた祈りの意味を感じながら、家族で静かに花火を見上げる時間は、夏の大切な記憶になるでしょう。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大江町の公式発表で事前に確認してください。終了後は周辺道路が混雑するため、花火終了後は少し時間をおいてから移動するのがおすすめです。河川敷は照明が少ない場所もあるため、小さなライトを必ず持参してください。帰りの車・公共交通の時刻は事前に確認を。

Seating fills up quickly on the evening of the fireworks, so ideally enter the floodplain by around 4 PM. Order food from stalls during an early time slot before it gets crowded. The riverside can get cold quickly after sunset, so have a light jacket on hand. Insect repellent spray is essential from late afternoon onward.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. The transition from dusk until the lanterns begin to flow is one of the main highlights of this festival.
