A park developed on the site of Yonezawa Castle's grounds, offering a lush green space enclosed by an outer and inner moat. Pine trees line the moat, and the site is beautiful with cherry blossoms in spring and fresh greenery reflecting on the water in summer. Since tonight's fireworks festival takes place at this very park and moat, walking along the water in daylight to scout potential viewing spots will make staking out a place after dark much easier. Stone walls, earthworks, and other castle remains survive throughout the grounds, making it enjoyable for a historical stroll too. Take a break on a shady bench and save your energy for tonight's fireworks.
Tips
Just a short walk from the Uesugi Museum. The park itself is free to stroll through. Crowds start building from evening on the day of the fireworks festival, so if you want a good spot, start staking it out right after dinner. Checking the location of public restrooms during the daytime will bring peace of mind after dark.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The shade in the afternoon is cool, and it's a good time to see the moat's water surface clearly.
