About this spot

A historic building blending Japanese and Western architectural styles, built in 1896 as the residence of the former Yonezawa domain lords, the Uesugi family. Set on a quiet plot adjoining the Yonezawa Castle ruins, the residence and its Japanese garden still evoke the atmosphere of the time. Today it operates as a restaurant, serving dishes made with Yonezawa beef (米沢牛) and other local Yonezawa cuisine within a historic setting. Filling up properly in this special place before the fireworks festival lets you fully enjoy the evening's viewing right to the end. The venue tends to get crowded on the day of the festival, so making a reservation in advance is reassuring.

Tips

About a 5-minute walk from Matsugasaki Park. Crowding is especially expected in the evening on the day of the fireworks festival, so making a reservation is strongly recommended. Check the official website in advance for hours and holidays. After eating, walk back to Matsugasaki Park and head to your viewing spot along the moat.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Enjoy a leisurely dinner of Yonezawa beef here before the fireworks.
