Yonezawa is the home of Yonezawa beef, counted among Japan's three great wagyu brands. Around Yonezawa Station, restaurants serving Yonezawa beef steak, sukiyaki, beef bowls, croquettes, and more are gathered at a range of price points. Yonezawa gets quite cold at night in October, so it's important to warm up thoroughly with a hot meal before heading to the venue. Since the area around the station makes it easy to get to the venue, you can head straight for the fireworks festival right after eating.

Tips

Popular restaurants can get crowded in the evening on the day of the fireworks festival, so an early dinner around 4:30pm is recommended. Picking up takeout items like Yonezawa beef croquettes on your way to the venue is another good option. To reach the venue, Yonezawa Municipal Baseball Stadium (米沢市営野球場), walk about 15–20 minutes from the station or take a taxi.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Finishing dinner early, before the crowds build, is reassuring.
