Approximately 5,000 fireworks illuminate the night sky above the Usui River—Yamanashi's signature summer spectacle
About this spot
The Usui River Shimonakosu Fireworks Festival is Yamanashi's signature summer fireworks event, launched from the riverbank downstream of Mankoku Bridge in Yamanashi City. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 7:30 PM to 8:50 PM, approximately 5,000 fireworks will illuminate the night sky of the Kofu Basin in brilliant succession. The ethereal beauty unique to "kawami-hanabi" (river fireworks) with reflections dancing on the water's surface, combined with the spectacle of grand star mines set against the Southern Alps, are the main attractions. The basin's surrounding mountains amplify the sound, with deep bass reverberating through your body, heightening the fireworks' impact. The moment the finale's rapid-fire display bathes both river and sky in light marks the climactic moment of your entire day.

Tips
In case of bad weather, check the official announcement from Yamanashi City in advance regarding whether the festival will proceed. After the show ends, the return route to JR Yamanashi Station becomes extremely congested. Enjoying the lingering atmosphere at the riverbank for a while and departing at a staggered time helps you avoid heavy traffic. The riverside lacks lighting on the return route, so use a small light or your smartphone's light to watch your footing carefully.
Best time to visit
During the 7:30 PM to 8:50 PM program. Secure your seating spot at least 30 minutes before the start.
