Leisurely Walk the Historic Approach and Main Hall of the Fulfillment Temple of the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage

An ancient temple of the Tendai Buddhist sect located in Tanigumi, Ibigawa Town, serving as the thirty-third and final (fulfillment) temple of the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage, drawing worshippers from across Japan. The approximately 800-meter stone-paved approach from the Nio Gate to the main hall is lined with souvenir shops on both sides, preserving the old-fashioned atmosphere of a traditional temple town. The summer temple grounds are covered in deep green, and walking the approach path accompanied by the sound of cicadas offers a cool, refreshing feeling. It is customary to ring the three bronze bells at the main hall and pay respects to the three principal deities representing past, present, and future—this is the unique practice of this pilgrimage site. There are many sights to see, including the carvings on the temple gate and stone Buddhist statues throughout the grounds; simply taking a leisurely stroll provides a taste of extraordinary tranquility.

2026年8月1日(土)19時45分から20時30分まで、揖斐川河川敷(前島橋上流)を会場に開催される「いびがわの祭りありがとう花火」です。地域への感謝を込めて名付けられた大会で、約2,500発の花火が揖斐川の夜空を彩ります。川沿いの会場では打ち上げ場所が近く、頭上いっぱいに広がる花火の迫力と音の響きは格別。静かな川面に映り込む光のゆらめきが、打ち上げ花火と呼応して河川敷ならではの立体的な美しさを生み出します。西美濃の山々に囲まれた揖斐川の夜空に次々と開く大輪は、昼間に歩いた谷汲山や揖斐川の自然と重なり合い、1日の旅の記憶をひとつに結びつけるクライマックスです。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表や揖斐川町の案内で確認してください。終了後は会場周辺の道路が混雑するため、フィナーレ後は河川敷でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動するのがおすすめです。帰路の足元は暗いため小さなライトがあると安全です。

Tips

About 20 minutes by car from the rest area. Multiple private parking lots (paid) are available near the approach entrance. No mountain entry fee required. There are several halls beyond the main hall, including Enmeiji Jizo and Manganando, so allow ample time for your walk. Taking a break at sweet shops along the approach is also recommended.
