About this spot

A Kitakami Civic park spreading across the river terrace of the Kitakami River, known as one of Tohoku's premier cherry blossom viewing sites; however, in summer it offers cool shade ideal for riverside walks. The park is equipped with walking paths, allowing you to stroll leisurely while viewing the Kitakami River's flow. Since this riverside is also the venue for tonight's fireworks display, viewing it in daylight will let you enjoy the contrast with the nighttime scenery. There is also a spacious lawn area where children can move freely. During the period when sightseeing boats operate, the views from the river are exceptional.

北上・みちのく芸能まつりのフィナーレを飾る花火の夕べは、北上川河畔を舞台に2026年8月9日(日)19時30分から20時30分まで開催されます。北上川の川面に映る花火の光は、打ち上げ花火の迫力にやわらかな奥行きを添え、川沿いならではの景色を作り出します。まつりの主役のひとつであるトロッコ流しとあわせて楽しめる、みちのくの夏の風物詩です。東北の芸能文化を受け継ぐまつりの夜空を彩る花火は、1日をかけてめぐってきた北上の風景とともに、家族の夏の記憶に深く刻まれるはずです。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は北上市や大会の公式情報で当日確認してください。終了後は観覧客が一斉に移動するため、北上駅方面は混雑が予想されます。花火終了後は河畔で少し余韻を楽しんでから移動するか、事前に帰りのルートと交通手段を確認しておくと安心です。足元が暗い場所もあるのでライトを活用しましょう。

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Kitakami Station; taxis are also available. Strolling through the park is free. Summer sun is strong, so bring a hat and sunscreen. The park may have shops or light food options, but it's reassuring to have lunch near Kitakami Station beforehand.
