The Sekishu Hamakko Summer Festival (石州浜っ子夏まつり) is a summer festival held by Hamada City across the Hamada Fishing Port area from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with about 3,000 fireworks shells launched between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. The fireworks launched over the harbor color the night sky against the backdrop of both the mountains behind and the Sea of Japan stretching out in front. The appeal lies in being able to view the fireworks head-on in the open space unique to a fishing port, and the sound of the launches carried on the sea breeze conveys the full force of a port town's summer. The moment the finale lights up the night sky is a fitting close to the whole day.

The event goes ahead in light rain, but is canceled in stormy weather, in which case only the fireworks may be postponed to the following day, Sunday, August 2. Please check official announcements from sources such as the Hamada Tourism Association on the day for whether the event is held. Afterward, the roads and parking lots around the venue become congested. It is recommended to wait a little while after the fireworks end before moving, or, if you are parked within walking distance, to return to your car after the crowds have settled down. It will be dark underfoot, so prepare your phone's flashlight.
