Hamada Fishing Port is one of San'in's leading fishing ports, known for its 《Donchichi Aji》 horse mackerel and 《nodoguro》 blackthroat seaperch. Restaurants serving local fish are scattered around the port, and on the day of the fireworks display, food stalls also open amid the festival's lively atmosphere. Finish dinner by early evening to get ready for the fireworks. The Sea of Japan at dusk, seen from the harbor's pier, has a quietness different from daytime. The flow of this course is to stroll around the festival's food stalls to soak up the atmosphere, then spend a relaxed moment before the show begins. It is reassuring to check the location of the restrooms while it is still light out.
Tips
On the day of the fireworks, restaurants and food stalls around the port become very crowded. It is recommended to finish dinner early, sometime in the 5 p.m. hour. If you buy food from the stalls, do not forget a trash bag. Before heading to the Pier No. 7 (7号岸壁) viewing area, finish organizing your belongings and doing a final check of your drinks.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 15 minutes. This is a time to enjoy the port's evening scenery around sunset along with the lively bustle of festival preparations.
